India is witnessing a sharp rise in demand for artificial intelligence talent, with AI-related job opportunities growing by nearly 15–20%, according to Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Speaking at the CII Annual Business Summit, the minister said the country’s technology ecosystem is entering a major transformation phase as businesses rapidly adopt AI-driven technologies.
AI Hiring Momentum Rising Across India
Vaishnaw said the government is regularly engaging with the IT industry and noted that companies are seeing strong growth in demand for AI-skilled professionals.
According to him, while traditional segments of the IT industry may undergo restructuring due to automation and evolving technologies, AI-focused roles are expanding at a much faster pace.
He also urged businesses to work closely with NASSCOM to help prepare India’s workforce for the next wave of technology-led growth.
Industry experts believe the increasing adoption of generative AI, automation, machine learning, and data infrastructure is creating new opportunities across software development, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and enterprise technology.
Data Centre Investments Seeing Massive Growth
The minister also highlighted India’s rapidly expanding data centre ecosystem, stating that the government’s decision to waive taxes on data centres until 2047 has triggered strong investor interest.
According to Vaishnaw, India is expected to attract nearly $200 billion in investments related to data centre infrastructure and the broader digital economy in the coming years.
The surge is being driven by rising internet usage, cloud adoption, AI workloads, and increasing demand for digital services across sectors.
India Expanding Global Digital Infrastructure
To strengthen India’s digital backbone, the government is also developing multiple large-scale subsea cable networks aimed at improving global connectivity and internet infrastructure.
The planned cable routes include:
- A network connecting Visakhapatnam to Australia and the United States
- A southern India route linking the Middle East, Europe, and the US
- Another route extending through the Cape of Good Hope toward the US
Vaishnaw said these projects will play a critical role in supporting India’s long-term digital growth and improving international data connectivity.
AI Server Manufacturing Begins in India
The minister further revealed that HP has already started manufacturing AI servers in India.
He added that the government is also encouraging global technology companies, including Google, to begin local production of advanced server infrastructure.
The push aligns with India’s broader goal of strengthening domestic electronics manufacturing and reducing dependence on imports in high-tech sectors.
The rapid rise in AI-related hiring signals a major shift in India’s technology landscape as companies accelerate investments in artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, and digital transformation.
With growing investments in data centres, subsea connectivity, and AI hardware manufacturing, India is positioning itself as a key global hub for next-generation technology and digital infrastructure. The rapid growth of AI is also transforming India’s broader startup ecosystem and technology industry.
