Privacy policies are usually written by lawyers, for lawyers. Ours is written for you.

We know that most people never read these pages. But we think you should — because this document explains something important: what information we collect when you visit MalikTimes, why we collect it, what we do with it, and what rights you have over it. We have tried to write this in plain English, without hiding anything in legal language.

If you have questions after reading this, our door is open. Write to us at privacy@maliktimes.in.

1. Who We Are

MalikTimes is an independent digital news publication covering startups, artificial intelligence, venture funding, technology, and business — headquartered in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, and read by audiences across India, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and globally.

Data Controller: MalikTimes Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India Email: privacy@maliktimes.in Website: maliktimes.in

For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR, MalikTimes is the data controller responsible for your personal data when you access our website from the European Union or the United Kingdom.

For readers based in India, this policy is also compliant with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011.

2. What Information We Collect — And Why

We collect only what we genuinely need. We do not collect data for the sake of it, and we do not sell your personal information to anyone — ever.

Here is a plain breakdown of what we collect and the reason for each:

2a. Information You Give Us Directly

Newsletter Subscription When you subscribe to the MalikTimes newsletter, you provide us with your email address. We use this solely to send you our newsletter — editorial updates, story highlights, and occasional announcements from our team.

We use Mailchimp (operated by The Rocket Science Group LLC, USA) to manage our newsletter list and send emails. By subscribing, your email address is stored on Mailchimp’s servers, which are subject to Mailchimp’s own Privacy Policy. Mailchimp is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, ensuring adequate protection for EU/UK reader data.

You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any email we send. Your address will be removed promptly — we do not retain unsubscribed addresses on our active mailing list.

Startup Submissions & Contact Forms If you submit a startup story, write to our editorial team, or contact us through any form on our website, you provide us with your name, email address, and the content of your message. We use this information only to respond to your enquiry and, where relevant, to process your submission editorially. We do not add contact form submissions to our newsletter list without your explicit consent.

2b. Information Collected Automatically

Google Analytics Like most websites, MalikTimes uses Google Analytics (provided by Google LLC, USA) to understand how readers find and use our content. Google Analytics collects information including:

  • Pages you visit on maliktimes.in
  • How long you spend on each page
  • The general geographic region you are visiting from (country/city level — not your exact address)
  • The device and browser you are using
  • How you arrived at our site (search engine, social media, direct link, etc.)

This data is aggregated and anonymised — we cannot identify you personally from Analytics data. We use it to understand which stories resonate with readers, how our site performs technically, and how to improve our coverage.

Google Analytics sets cookies on your device to collect this data. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking at any time by installing the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on, available at: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

We have enabled IP anonymisation in our Google Analytics setup, meaning your full IP address is never stored by Google on our behalf.

Google AdSense MalikTimes displays advertisements served by Google AdSense (Google LLC, USA). Google AdSense uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to serve ads that are relevant to your interests, based on your browsing history across websites that use Google’s advertising services.

This is known as interest-based advertising or behavioural advertising. You can manage your Google ad personalisation preferences at: adssettings.google.com

If you prefer not to receive personalised ads, you can opt out through the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out tool at: optout.networkadvertising.org

Please note that opting out of personalised ads does not mean you will stop seeing advertisements on MalikTimes — it means the ads shown will be less tailored to your interests.

WordPress & Server Logs Our website runs on WordPress. WordPress and our web hosting provider automatically collect certain technical data when you visit any page — including your IP address, browser type, operating system, and the time and date of your visit. This information is stored in server logs and is used solely for security monitoring and technical troubleshooting. It is not used for marketing purposes.

WordPress also sets functional cookies that are necessary for the website to operate correctly — for example, to remember your session if you are logged in.

Clicking an affiliate link may result in third-party websites placing their own cookies on your device. We have no control over third-party cookies and recommend reviewing the privacy policies of any external sites you visit.

4. How We Use Your Information — Legal Basis

We process your personal data only when we have a valid legal reason to do so. Under GDPR and UK GDPR, our legal bases are:

  • Consent — when you subscribe to our newsletter, you give us explicit consent to send you emails. You can withdraw this consent at any time.
  • Legitimate Interests — we use Google Analytics and server logs to understand how our website performs and to keep it secure. This is in our legitimate interest as a publisher, and we have assessed that this does not override your privacy rights.
  • Legal Obligation — we may process data where required by Indian law, EU law, or UK law.
  • Contract — if you engage with us for commercial purposes (advertising, partnerships), we process your contact data to fulfil our agreement.

5. Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell your personal data. We do not trade it. We do not share it for purposes other than those described in this policy.

We share data only with the following trusted service providers, and only to the extent necessary for them to provide their service to us:

  • Mailchimp (The Rocket Science Group LLC, USA) — newsletter management
  • Google LLC (USA) — analytics and advertising
  • Our web hosting provider — server infrastructure and security
  • WordPress (Automattic Inc., USA) — content management platform

All third-party providers we work with are required to handle your data securely and in accordance with applicable privacy law.

We may also disclose your data if required to do so by a court order, law enforcement authority, or other legal obligation under Indian, EU, or UK law — and only to the extent legally required.

6. International Data Transfers

MalikTimes is based in India. Some of our service providers — including Google and Mailchimp — are based in the United States and may process your data on servers located outside India, the EU, or the UK.

Where data is transferred internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place:

  • Google and Mailchimp participate in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and implement Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for transfers from the EU and UK
  • All international transfers comply with the requirements of GDPR Chapter V and UK GDPR

7. How Long We Keep Your Data

We do not keep your data longer than necessary.

  • Newsletter subscribers — your email address is retained for as long as you remain subscribed. After you unsubscribe, your address is removed from our active list within 30 days.
  • Contact form submissions — retained for up to 12 months, unless there is an ongoing editorial or business matter that requires longer retention.
  • Google Analytics data — retained for 14 months, as per our Analytics configuration, after which it is automatically deleted.
  • Server logs — retained for up to 90 days for security purposes.
  • Advertising data — managed by Google AdSense under Google’s own data retention policies.

8. Your Rights

Wherever you are in the world, we respect your right to control your own data. Depending on where you are based, you may have some or all of the following rights:

Right to Access — You can ask us what personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it.

Right to Correction — If the information we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete, you can ask us to correct it.

Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten) — You can ask us to delete your personal data. We will do so promptly, unless we are required by law to retain it. To request deletion, email us at privacy@maliktimes.in with the subject line “Data Deletion Request.”

Right to Restrict Processing — You can ask us to pause processing your data in certain circumstances — for example, while a correction request is being reviewed.

Right to Data Portability — You can request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format, where technically feasible.

Right to Object — You can object to us processing your data on the basis of legitimate interests. We will review your objection and cease processing unless we have compelling grounds to continue.

Right to Withdraw Consent — Where we process data based on your consent (such as newsletter subscriptions), you can withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

Rights under Indian Law — Under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and associated rules, Indian residents have the right to review, correct, and withdraw consent for personal data we process.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@maliktimes.in. We will respond within 30 days — and within 72 hours for urgent requests involving sensitive data. There is no charge for making a request.

9. Children’s Privacy

MalikTimes is a news publication intended for adults and professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13, or under the age of 16 for users in the European Union.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without appropriate parental consent, please contact us immediately at privacy@maliktimes.in and we will delete the data without delay.

10. Security

We take the security of your data seriously. MalikTimes uses industry-standard measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction — including:

  • HTTPS encryption across all pages of maliktimes.in
  • Regular security monitoring of our web hosting environment
  • Restricted internal access to personal data, limited to team members who need it to perform their role
  • Regular review of third-party service provider security practices

No method of data transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we do everything we reasonably can to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach that affects your rights and freedoms, we will notify affected individuals and relevant supervisory authorities within the timeframes required by applicable law.

11. Third-Party Websites & Links

Our articles regularly link to external websites — company pages, official filings, research reports, other media outlets. These links are provided for context and reference.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of any third-party website. Once you leave maliktimes.in, this Privacy Policy no longer applies. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any external site you visit.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We review this Privacy Policy regularly and update it when our practices change, when new legal requirements apply, or when we introduce new features on our website.

When we make significant changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes that significantly affect how we use your data, we will notify newsletter subscribers by email before the changes take effect.

We recommend checking this page periodically if you use our website regularly.

13. Supervisory Authorities — Your Right to Complain
